My fellow gamer Alfront must be a mind reader as he mentioned "Vanished Armies" by Haswell Miller in a comment yesterday. I got it last year for Christmas ( I think) and was pouring over it once more yesterday afternoon .It is a wonderful book illustrated by marvellous paintings. I also have been enjoying an old friend in the form of my Almark book from circa 1972.I have photographed an example page for you to see. I trust one and all are having time in "winter quarters" to plan, daydream ,research and even model too.If so do tell us here what you are up to.

Ah ! the waves of nostalgia - I have that old Almark book as well - last used about 30+ years ago to paint up a 15mm Peter Laing WW1 German army . Lots of information in the Almark series of books .
ReplyDeleteAlan...the plot thickens. It appears that there is more than one edition - I have e-mailed some images.
ReplyDeleteMosstrooper - Peter Laing! The ultimate in true scale and form, i.e., little blobs with great charm. I had a fistful of RCW chaps, including a marvellous tiny Lenin (whom I gave to my brother-in-law, the Scottish novelist, Ken MacLeod, who was, in those days, a Bolshevik); there was also a great little despatch rider who really looked like T.E.Lawrence in his RAF days on his Brough Superior - amazing what blobs of lead can be!
Ok, Alan, I now realise my error - you've posted images from the Almark book! Er..my excuse is too much Christmas wine and tobacco - Rattrays 'Highland Targe', a nice mixture from Perth.
ReplyDeleteYou can nevere have too many books about uniforms.- But why don't we get more back views? Happy New Year, by the way.
